Water Conservation
Within the next few months, we will be going from voluntary to mandatory water conservation. While there has been a great deal of cooperation on the part of citizens, reducing lawn watering and sweeping the driveways instead of hosing them, more can be done. Here are some suggestions:
Water lawns and plants after dusk and before dawn.
Plant drought tolerant plants.
Sweep the driveway and patio instead of hosing them.
Use drip irrigation for potted plants and gardens.
Refit irrigation systems with weather sensitive sprinkler heads. Make sure the timers are set correctly.
Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth.
Run the dishwasher after 7:00 p.m.
Use the washer/dryer after 7:00 p.m. and before 7:00 a.m.
When washing small loads, set the machine for mini or medium.
When washing cars and boats, turn off the hose while applying soap and or wax.
Take a two minute shower.
While the shower water is warming up, capture the cold water in a pail and use it to water potted plants.
Only rain in the drain. No chemicals should be allowed into the drain that leads to the lake.
